Middlebury Trash Reduction
The Middlebury Trash Reduction Pilot is a new waste reduction program for transfer station users that launched on July 1st, 2023. The pilot involves the distribution of free trash bags (orange) and food scrap bags (green) to residents. Residents are challenged to cut the trash in half by using only up-to two orange bags and one green bag per week. This effort to reduce trash and divert organics is funded by the Sustainable Materials Management Grants Program from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), and joins other municipalities throughout the state that are participating in this program. Residents will dispose of green food scrap bags in a “food waste” container located at the Transfer Station and dispose of their orange trash bags in the usual dumpster. The initial year’s supply of bags will be available at the Middlebury Transfer Station upon request if you have not already received yours.
